EU is ready to gradually resume the import of poultry products from Brazil
The EU recognized Brazil as a bird flu-free country. This will make it possible to resume the export of chicken meat to the countries of the bloc, the Minister of Agriculture of Brazil, Carlos Favaro, announced on X social networks, following a teleconference with the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Brazil, Andre de Paulo, and the EU Commissioner for Animal Health and Welfare, Oliver Varhela.
The European Commissioner noted that the agricultural department of Brazil provided all the data that would allow the country to be recognized as free from highly pathogenic bird flu. “In practice, this means that we will move forward together with the member states with a proposal to gradually lift bans and restrictions on exports from Brazil, gradually restoring the list of regions,” Oliver Varkheli clarified.
Before the outbreak of industrial livestock, in January-June, the EU imported 125,300 tons of chicken meat from Brazil. This is 20.8% more than in the same period last year, according to data from the industry association ABPA.
