EU allocates €98.6 mln to support farmers

The European Union member states have supported the European Commission’s initiative to provide €98.6 million from the agricultural reserve for farmers in Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia and Hungary. These countries have suffered significant losses due to adverse weather conditions and natural disasters that have affected their crops and farmers’ incomes since spring 2024.
In 2024, farmers in these countries were hit by drought, abnormal heat, hurricanes and heavy rains. In particular, Spain faced record drought and devastating floods, Cyprus suffered crop losses due to lack of rainfall, and Latvia was hit by frost and heavy summer rains. At the same time, in Croatia and Hungary, extreme heat negatively affected the cultivation of corn, sunflowers, soybeans and fruit.
Financial support is aimed at compensating farmers for losses and ensuring the stability of the agricultural sector in the affected regions.
