Ethanol production in India will not allow exporting sugar in MY 2024/25

According to international analysts from Wilmar, the increase in ethanol production in India will reduce the availability of sugar on the local market and will not allow the country to export sugar in the new season of MY 2024/25.
India ranks second in terms of sugar production in the world after Brazil, but despite this, the country currently has a ban on sugar exports. Most of the sugar produced is used for ethanol production. According to Wilmar’s forecast, in the MY 2024/25 season, 5 million tons of sugar will be used for ethanol production in India, resulting in sugar output of only 27.5 million tons against the country’s total consumption of 29.5 million tons.
