Erdogan to talk to Putin about a new mechanism for exporting Ukrainian grain
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will arrive in Turkey on February 12, a new mechanism for exporting Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Reuters reports.
He noted that “new methods” of transportation of Ukrainian grain to world markets are being sought.
“The previous ‘grain deal’ worked within a certain mechanism. Now it has become clear that it is possible to use a different mechanism, and efforts are being made to specify this possibility,” the Foreign Minister said, adding that Erdogan would raise this issue during his meeting with Putin.
Fidan clarified that after Russia withdrew from the agreement brokered by the UN and Turkey in July 2023, the ships continued to transport grain.
“We want to clarify this de facto situation with the help of a new mechanism,” the diplomat said, without going into details.
