Egypt plans to increase domestic wheat production
Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, announced plans to increase the country’s domestic wheat production to between 4.7 million and 5 million tons. In comparison, Egypt produced about 3.9 million tons of wheat in 2025.
According to the minister, the growth will be supported by an expansion of wheat cultivation areas. The total planted area is expected to reach around 3.7 million acres in the upcoming season.
Farouk noted that the positive outlook is linked to the expansion of model farms that help transfer modern agricultural knowledge and technologies to farmers. Authorities are also working to modernize irrigation systems and train farmers to use water resources more efficiently.
In addition, the government aims to boost yields through the use of improved seed varieties and advanced farming practices. Egyptian authorities stress that wheat production remains a top priority as the country seeks to strengthen its food security.
