Egypt plans to create a Ukrainian grain hub
Ukraine and Egypt are working to develop cooperation in agriculture, in particular, the possibility of establishing a Ukrainian food supply center in Egypt is being considered. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
It is noted that the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ukraine Barakat Ali Elleiti.
The parties discussed the potential for increasing Ukrainian-Egyptian cooperation in the field of agriculture.
The main issues raised were:
- reduction of deferred payments to Ukrainian exporters for delivered goods;
- abolition of a number of trade restrictions and duties;
- possibility of establishing a Ukrainian grain supply center in Egypt.
The Minister emphasized that cooperation between Ukraine and Egypt should be mutually beneficial for both parties. Thus, the parties agreed to set up a joint working group to develop a roadmap to address current issues.
In 2024, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Ukraine and Egypt amounted to USD 1.4 billion, which is 32% more than in 2023.
Ukrainian exports were mainly corn, wheat, soybeans, and oil.
Citrus fruits, potatoes, and nuts were imported from Egypt.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian company entered the Egyptian market with a line of premium animal feed. Kormotech became the first Ukrainian pet food company to start exporting cat and dog food to the Egyptian market.
