Drought worsens in Ukraine, moisture for winter crops is lacking in most regions
Ukrainian farmers have begun sowing winter crops for the 2025 harvest, but soil moisture availability is extremely low in most regions of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Weather Center has reported.
“The drought continued and intensified in the fields intended for sowing winter crops next year,” the weather center said in a statement.
After the July heatwave, in August, amid a severe precipitation deficit and high temperatures, soil and atmospheric drought intensified in the southern, central and eastern regions, spreading to about 60-70% of the territory, including the western regions, forecasters said.
As of September 2, 484.1 thousand hectares of winter crops were sown in Ukraine.
