Draft Food Security Strategy of Ukraine has been developed
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has developed a draft Food Security Strategy for Ukraine, according to which it intends to increase the potential for domestic agricultural production to 200 million tons and grain and oilseeds to 150 million tons in the medium term.
“Achievement of these indicators can almost double the volume of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products and processed products, as well as finished food products,” the draft document, which is posted on the website of the joint representative body of representative all-Ukrainian trade unions, says.
It is also noted that such an increase in crop production in Ukraine will stimulate the development of livestock and the related production of feed and other food products (proteins, special fats, gluten, dairy products, meat products, etc.)
Another promising area for promoting agricultural products in foreign markets, according to the strategy’s authors, is the production of self-branded products for global retail chains and food producers.
It is expected that the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex could become the most attractive win-win investment portfolio in the short term, estimated at $57 billion. The Ministry believes that the largest investment segments are green energy and logistics (biomethane, irrigation systems, elevators, green agricultural logistics); production of finished products (fruits, vegetables and their processed products; milk and dairy products, meat products); production of machinery and resources (plant protection products, nitrogen and complex fertilizers, agricultural products); production of machinery and resources (plant protection products, nitrogen and complex fertilizers, agricultural fertilizers); production of machinery.
“Given these prospects, priority will be given to programs for the development of production, market, and logistics infrastructure, including hydromelioration infrastructure, and projects for deep processing of agricultural products,” the document says.
The developers of the draft strategy are confident that the proposed measures will help to form a sustainable food security system, ensure full access to safe food in sufficient quantities for everyone, create conditions for the country’s food independence, sustainable agricultural development, and reduce the incidence of disease.
