Deadlines for completion of the sowing season in Ukraine announced
Ukraine plans to complete the sowing campaign on June 5-10. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky during a telethon.
According to him, the sowing plan, set at 13 million hectares, has already been fulfilled by 85%, even closer to 90%. It is expected that in the first half of June, the sowing campaign will be fully completed.
“The weather conditions in May helped us quickly catch up with what the rains prevented us from doing in April and reach the average sowing rate, sometimes with a delay of up to 1.5-2 weeks. This is not critical at the moment,” Vysotsky said.
He clarified that sowing of early spring crops, such as spring wheat, barley, peas, and oats, has already been completed, and sugar beet sowing has been completed in a volume larger than last year.
“We will produce more than enough sugar,” the First Deputy Minister said.
Sowing of late crops – sunflower, soybeans and partially corn – is currently underway.
“This year, the share of oilseeds, namely soybeans, sunflower, and rapeseed, has increased. This is primarily due to the costly logistics, and, accordingly, the change in crop rotation for crops that have a higher price per tonne, per unit of sales,” Vysotskyi explained.
