Danube ports join the Grain from Ukraine program
The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution to involve Ukraine’s ports on the Danube in providing assistance to Asian and African countries in the form of corn and wheat. This was reported by the government.
It confirmed that the Grain from Ukraine initiative has been extended to the Danube ports of Ukraine. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine’s farmers have now harvested 34 million tons of crops during the harvesting campaign. He confirmed that there is enough grain to help other countries, as the government estimates that Ukraine’s domestic needs reach 6-7 million tons per year.
It should be noted that the international initiative Grain from Ukraine was launched in November 2022. It allowed Ukrainian food to be exported to Asia and Africa.
Ukraine hopes to send about 60 ships from its ports to countries that need urgent assistance as they are most affected by the food crisis. Each ship with food should meet the food needs of 90 thousand people.
This is our contribution to global food security. We are working with the UN and our other partners to fully restore agricultural exports from Ukraine and finally unblock our Black Sea ports,” Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
