Corn harvesting has begun in the US
Last week, U.S. farmers began harvesting a new corn crop, Zerno On-line reports, citing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
By Sept. 8, 5% of the planted area had been harvested, up from the same date last year (4%) and the five-year average (3%).
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts, the gross corn harvest this season may reach 384.7 million tons, which is less than last season’s record (389.7 million tons), but higher than the five-year average.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates corn export potential at 58.4 million tons (57.2 million tons last season).
