Contacts on the continuation of the “grain initiative” are ongoing, – Turkish Defense Ministry

Contacts on the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative are ongoing, and Turkey is ready to actively contribute to the ceasefire and peace in the region. This was discussed yesterday at a press conference at the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey.
“We are closely following the developments between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, which pose a serious threat to the security of our region and the world. First of all, we reiterate that we are ready to play an active, facilitating role in ensuring a ceasefire and further permanent peace and provide all kinds of support to mitigate the humanitarian crisis,” said Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, Press and Public Affairs Advisor.
The Turkish Defense Ministry said that contacts on the continuation of the grain initiative are ongoing.
“Our contacts with the UN, the leadership of Russia and Ukraine regarding the continuation of the ‘grain initiative’, which was suspended by Russia, continue in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs… We would like to see positive steps taken after the meeting (in Sochi – ed.) to continue this initiative, which makes a great contribution to stabilizing world food prices and proves that all crises can be resolved through goodwill and dialogue,” the Defense Ministry said.
It was emphasized that the current “delicate balance of security” in the Black Sea should be maintained within the framework of “regional affiliation” and the “Montreux principles”.
