Сondition of wheat crops in France remains worse than the average for the last 5 years

According to FranceAgriMer, as of March 3, 74% of soft wheat crops in France are in good or very good condition, which is an improvement compared to last year (68%) but remains below the average level of the past five years. Experts note that the conditions for crop development this year were better, leading to higher crop density compared to 2024.
The most affected crops were those sown between November 1 and 15 after sunflower harvesting. Cold weather at the beginning of the year resulted in plant losses and slower growth. The further condition of the crops will largely depend on the amount of rainfall and temperature in April and May during the ear-filling stage.
As of the reporting date, 82% of durum wheat crops were in good and excellent condition (compared to 73% last year), as well as 70% of winter barley (69% in 2024). In addition, the spring barley sowing campaign continues — 65% of the planned areas have been sown compared to 28% last year and 55% on average over the past five years.
