Chinese company has struck $5.2 bln in agricultural deals with traders such as Cargill and LDC
Chinese supply chain operator and developer Xiamen announced Thursday that it has signed contracts worth more than $5.2 billion with seven agribusinesses and trading houses, including Cargill and Shanghai-based Louis Dreyfus Company.
The signed contracts cover soybeans, corn, and cotton, among other commodities, according to statements the Xiamen-based company posted on its Chinese social media account.
According to one statement, Xiamen C&D’s deal with the American firm Cargill will include supplies to the Chinese company’s animal feed and food processing facilities.
It is unclear whether Cargill’s deal will include soybeans, a commodity under scrutiny after Washington announced that China would resume purchasing American soybeans as part of a trade truce reached last month.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Chinese company said the $2.5 billion deal with agricultural commodity trader Louis Dreyfus Company will help build a stable global agricultural supply chain.
Xiamen C&D’s other contracts were signed with the Swiss company Syngenta and the American company CHS, as well as Olam, BTG Pactual, and Cutrale.
