China’s meat production will grow by 4.2% in 2025
At the end of December, the pig population in China totaled 429.67 million, up 0.5% from the previous year.
Total meat and poultry production in China by the end of 2025 will increase by 4.2% to 100.72 million tons, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Beef production increased by 2.8% (to 8.01 million tons), pork by 4.1% (to 59.38 million tons), and poultry by 6.7% (to 28.37 million tons). Meanwhile, mutton production decreased by 4.2% (to 4.96 million tons).
Milk production increased by 0.3% (to 40.91 million tons), while egg production decreased by 2.5% (to 34.98 million tons).
At the end of December, the pig population in China stood at 429.67 million, up 0.5% from the previous year. Last year, 719.73 million pigs were slaughtered, up 2.4% from the 2024 figure.
In 2025, China harvested 714.88 million tons of grain, up 1.2% from the previous year, according to the National Statistical Office (NSO) report.
This is the second consecutive year that the figure has exceeded 700 million tons. Prior to this, annual grain production had exceeded 650 million tons for nine consecutive years.
The wheat harvest last year was 140.07 million tons (unchanged), corn 301.24 million tons (up 2.1%), rice 209.04 million tons (up 0.7%), and soybeans 20.91 million tons (up 1.3%).
