China to Set Meat Production Record in 1H25

China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has released data on domestic animal protein production in the second quarter, which cemented the all-time high for the first half of 2025.
The increase was mainly driven by poultry and beef output, which reached 12.7 million tonnes and 3.42 million tonnes, respectively.
Pork output also resumed growth, helping to boost overall supply in the country, while mutton output declined.
Poultry accounted for more than 60% of China’s production growth in the period, with pork accounting for 30% and beef accounting for 10%. Oversupply and falling prices are putting pressure on the sector.
