China. Sugar production in 24/25 may increase by 7%
According to international analysts CovrigAnalytics, in the new season of 2024/25 MY in China, sugar production may increase by 6.5% compared to the current season and amount to 10.54 million tons.
China is expected to increase sugar production due to the expansion of sugar cane cultivation in Guangxi province and the increase in sugar beet plantings in Inner Mongolia, as well as the increase in cane and beet yields in these regions. The increase in acreage was primarily driven by a recovery in domestic sugar prices, lower corn prices, and the release of farmland from eucalyptus trees.
The minimum purchase price of sugar cane in China increased by 30 yuan/t to 510 yuan/t ($71/t), while the price of sugar on the Chinese domestic market was set at 6,300 yuan/t ($878/t excluding VAT).
