China refuses to buy Russian grain – Bloomberg
China may become the largest buyer of staple foods this season, and Russia the largest exporter. However, they refuse to buy Russian wheat from China. This is stated in the material of Bloomberg.
“China is buying a lot of wheat, with total imports up more than 60% year-on-year to about 6 million tons in the first four months of the year. Of this, Russia accounted for very little – 30 thousand tons,” the media outlet writes.
Last year, Chinese authorities said they would allow imports of Russian goods, but trade has been hampered by a variety of problems, including phytosanitary regulations and transportation issues.
Wheat is an exception to China-Russia trade. Beijing’s purchases of electricity and aluminum have surged as sanctions have reduced supplies to the West.
