China reduced sugar imports by almost 28%
According to the General Administration of Customs (GACC), in April, sugar imports to China decreased by 27.5% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 50 thousand tons, which is 10 thousand tons more than in March 2024. During the first four months of this year, sugar imports to China amounted to 1.26 million tons.
This was reported by the USDA.
According to the estimates of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), in the current season of 2023/24 MY (October – September), sugar imports to China are expected to reach 4.6 million tons, compared to 3.8 million tons in the previous season. This volume, according to the USDA, will be enough to meet domestic demand and build up inventories.
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture of China reported an expected increase in sugar production in the country in the season 2023/24 MY by 3% compared to the previous season 2022/23 MY – to the level of 8.8 million tons.
