China reduced imports of major crops by 2.3% in 2024

In 2024, the volume of main crops imported by China – grains, pulses and oilseeds crops – amounted to 157.52 mln tons, down 2.3% compared to 2023. This was reported by the General Administration of Customs of China.
According to the published data of the agency, the volume of agricultural products, which China purchased from other countries in 12 months, decreased even more significantly in value terms – by 15.6%, to $69.02 billion.
However, in December, compared to November, purchases increased by 8.1% to 10.24 tons. In terms of value, their volume increased by 6.5% month-on-month to $4.56 billion.
According to the statistics of the State Customs Administration, in 2023 China purchased 161.96 mln tons of major crops abroad (for $82.29 bln). Compared to 2022, China increased the physical volume of such imports by 11.7%, while the cost of delivery increased by 1%.
