China overtook Ukraine and Chile in walnut exports to the EU
The European Union imported 116,493 tons of shelled walnuts in January-September 2025, which is 12% more than last year.
According to Mundus Agri, customs statistics show that the EU paid 720 million euros for this volume, which is significantly more than last year’s 455.2 million euros. The average import price of 6.18 euros/kg is 41% higher than last year.
The vast majority of supplies came from the USA – 54.45 thousand tons, or 47% of all imports.
The EU also increased purchases from China 3.7 times – to 24.14 thousand tons. As a result, China this year overtook Chile and Ukraine in terms of walnut supplies to Europe.
The main importer of products was Germany with a share of 40% (46.7 thousand tons) of total imports, followed by Spain (18.2 thousand tons, +6.5%) and the Netherlands (10 thousand tons, -41.7%).
