China may temporarily lift duties on Canadian rapeseed meal and rapeseed oil
UkrAgroConsult
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to visit China around January 13, amid discussions on a possible partial easing of mutual trade restrictions. As part of these talks, Canada may suspend its tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles for one year, a move seen as an attempt to de-escalate tensions in bilateral economic relations.
In response, China could temporarily lift the additional 100% tariff on Canadian rapeseed meal (RSM) and rapeseed oil (RSO). However, trade restrictions on Canadian canola would remain in place. For Canada’s agricultural sector, this would provide limited but meaningful relief in access to the Chinese market, while a full resumption of canola trade remains uncertain.
