China in May bought the minimum amount of corn in 2024
According to the General Administration of Customs of the country (GACC), China imported 1.05 mln tonnes of corn in May, down 11% compared to the previous month, Reuters reports.
As noted, the volume is the lowest since April 2023, when the imports of the grain to China amounted to 1 mln tonnes.
According to the USDA estimates, the U.S. shipped 23.9 mln tonnes of corn to China this season, while the previous season the figure reached 31.1 mln tonnes. At the same time, there were no sales of the new crop of the American grain for delivery in 2024/25 MY, although in the previous season, as of the end of May, the US sold 1.5 mln tonnes of corn to China.
