China imposes 34% tariffs on all US goods from April 10

China announced a series of additional tariffs and restrictions on American goods on April 4 in retaliation for steep tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported.
China’s Ministry of Finance said it would impose additional tariffs of 34% on all American goods starting April 10.
Beijing also announced controls on the export of a number of rare earth metals, including samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium and yttrium, to the United States starting April 4.
“The purpose of the Chinese government’s implementation of export controls on relevant products in accordance with the law is to better protect national security and interests, as well as fulfill international obligations such as non-proliferation,” the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.
The agency also added 11 companies to a list of “unreliable organizations.”
Earlier, the US Treasury Secretary warned countries around the world against responding to the introduction of US tariffs. The Trump administration has imposed tariffs on more than 180 countries and territories (for China – 34% in addition to the already existing 20%, in total – 54%). US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant says that if countries take retaliatory measures, there will be an escalation.
