China expects growth in rapeseed production in MY 2024/25
Analysts of the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (FAS USDA) in China forecast soybean seed production in the country in MY 2024/25 at the level of 1.12 million tons, which is 3% below the level of the previous season. Analysts believe the reason for the reduction is a 5% decrease in soybean acreage to 406,000 hectares. At the same time, the yield is expected to increase by 2%.
Demand for soybean seeds in China, according to the report, will decrease by 5% per year, to about 580 thousand tons. Brazil’s record soybean crop is expected to meet at least half of China’s demand in February-April and 20% in May-June.
Spring rapeseed seed production in MY 2024/25 is estimated at 13.9 thousand tons, up 10% from the previous year due to higher yields. Winter rape seed production is estimated at 27,000 tons, up 9% due to an increase in winter rape acreage. Total winter rape seed supply in MY 2024/25 is estimated at 31,200 tons, including 3,400 tons of current stocks.
Demand for winter rape seed in MY 2024/25 is estimated at 26 thousand tons.
Although there are variations in various items, total seed production remains above the five-year average due to good growing conditions in 2024, FAS analysts said.
