China complains to the World Trade Organization against the United States
The Chinese authorities have filed an official complaint with the World Trade Organization in connection with the introduction of a 10 percent duty on goods from the United States.
According to the BBC, in the document, Beijing accuses Washington of using “unfounded and false arguments” about China’s role in the fentanyl drug trade, which was the official reason for the tariff changes voiced by US President Donald Trump when he signed the relevant decree.
China calls the US measures “discriminatory and protectionist” and believes that they violate trade rules.
Experts note that the speed of Beijing’s appeal to the WTO indicates that the country’s communist authorities are ready to wage a full-fledged trade war with the United States. At the same time, the complaint itself will not have any tangible consequences, as the organization’s arbitration panel is currently unable to function.
