China bought 8 mln tons of soybeans from the US in 2025
China has purchased at least 8 million tons of soybeans from the United States in 2025, the Agriculture news portal reported on December 31.
Analysts note that these purchase volumes allow the world’s largest importer to fulfill the promise it made to the United States two months ago as part of the trade truce with Washington. Moreover, government buyers continued booking American cargoes until the end of December.
This extended the wave of purchases that began in October and maintained their pace, reassuring American exporters who feared Beijing’s commitments might weaken amid limited clarity. Most of the cargoes currently booked are for shipment between December and March.
As a reminder, immediately following President Donald Trump’s talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, the White House announced that China had committed to purchasing at least 12 million tons of American soybeans by the end of 2025. Later, American officials clarified that the deadline was the end of February.
Beijing has not confirmed this commitment, but the Chinese government has taken steps to reduce tariffs on this crop and lifted bans on soybean imports from three American exporters.
Meanwhile, American analysts warn that even though Beijing accepts supplies from the US, Chinese state-owned companies are purchasing large volumes of beans from Brazil and Argentina.
