Canola processing in Canada reached a record high in MY 2024/25

In the MY 2024/25 (August-July), canola processing in Canada reached a new record of 11.3 million tonnes, which is 0.3 million tonnes more than in the previous season, Oil World reports. The growth in processing volumes was made possible by high demand for canola oil, in particular from the USA. In June, oilseed processing amounted to 856 thousand tonnes, which is 10% higher than last year.
At the same time, soybean processing in Canada in June decreased to 105 thousand tonnes, which is the lowest figure in the last 9 months, although it is 24% more than in June last year. Despite the decline in the soybean segment, the overall dynamics of oilseed processing remain positive thanks to canola.
Experts also note an improvement in the condition of canola crops due to rains in the second half of July. In Saskatchewan, the proportion of the canola crop suffering from moisture deficiency decreased to 27% as of July 21, compared to 45% two weeks earlier. In Alberta, 63% of the canola crop was in good or excellent condition as of July 22, significantly better than 49% a year ago.
