Canada’s wheat harvest came in above expectations
Heavy rainfall in Western Canada has helped produce nearly 34.3 million tons of high quality wheat, which will bolster Canada’s status as a major grain exporter in 2024-25, according to a report released by Cereals Canada.
Grain yields exceeded expectations, leading to a 4% increase in non-turf wheat production and an 8% increase in durum wheat production, with the quality of much of the crop rated 2 or better.
“Canada is expected to export 25.4 million tons of wheat to more than 80 countries in the 2024-25 crop year, with quality and protein content meeting buyers’ expectations,” said Dean Diaz, executive director of Cereals Canada, the industry association representing grain producers in Canada. “This will make Canada the world’s third largest wheat exporter for the second year in a row and a leader in exports of high-quality, high-protein wheat.”
