Bulgaria’s wheat sown area 2% smaller in 2022-23 crop year

Bulgaria put a total of 1,184,307 hectares to wheat and 115,612 hectares to barley during the 2022 autumn sowing and expects a very good harvest in those cereals later this year, the agriculture ministry said.
Given that 83% of the monitored wheat sowings are estimated as being in good to very good condition, this year’s wheat harvest is expected to be very strong, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Bulgaria put to wheat 1,208,371 hectares in the previous crop year, collecting a harvest of some 6.3 million tonnes.
As at the end of March, Bulgaria’s available grain stocks amount to 3,070,102 t of wheat, 1,555,405 t of maize and 1,318,433 t of sunflower, the agriculture ministry said.
