The Bulgarian rapeseed market has entered 2026 under a fundamentally new balance of interests between farmers, processors and external suppliers. Regulatory controls on Ukrainian rapeseed flows remain in place, while domestic production alone cannot fully secure uninterrupted processing. UkrAgroConsult notes that this tension increasingly defines price behavior, sourcing strategies and trade decisions across the season.

Market dynamics reflect a clear hierarchy of supply options. Proximity and logistics efficiency keep regional origins at the core of procurement strategies, while overseas alternatives remain a secondary solution due to longer delivery cycles and higher financial exposure. In February 2026, indicative delivered prices to Bulgaria clustered around the mid-300 €/t range for regional supply, underlining the importance of freight distance and timing.

Structural changes inside Ukraine have also reshaped the Bulgarian rapeseed balance. A larger share of Ukrainian rapeseed is now processed domestically, redirecting flows toward rapeseed oil rather than seed exports. This shift has altered trade patterns, with oil shipments becoming a stabilizing factor for Bulgarian biodiesel production.

Visual trends across the season outline a widening gap between raw seed availability and processing demand. Seasonal import volumes rise sharply once local stocks tighten, while oil inflows follow a smoother trajectory, supporting operational continuity. According to UkrAgroConsult, this combination of seed and oil flows has become a critical buffer for the market.

Looking ahead, expectations for the next season are already forming. Winter rapeseed sowings approached 157 thsd ha, signaling renewed farmer interest after several difficult years. At the same time, cost pressure and political sensitivity suggest that licensing mechanisms will remain a defining element of market stability.
