Bulgaria increased oil production due to affordable prices for Ukrainian sunseed – Kapshuk
In 2022, Bulgarian processors were able to purchase Ukrainian sunflower seeds at affordable prices. This allowed them to increase the production of oil to 250-300 thsd tonnes, while the domestic demand was about 150 thsd tonnes. This was stated by Stepan Kapshuk, Director of Ukroliyaprom.
Commenting on the agreement between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria to sign a memorandum on sunflower oil, he noted that this decision was due to Bulgaria’s increase in sunflower oil production.
According to Mr. Kapshuk, the number of oil extraction plants in Bulgaria has increased from 4 to 11 over the past few years.
“They need to sell their own products both on the domestic market and increase exports,” Mr. Kapshuk said.
As a reminder, given the sunseed stocks in Ukraine, the production and export of sunflower oil in May-August of 2022/23 MY may be the lowest for the mentioned period in more than 9 seasons.
