In Bulgaria, like in all the Black Sea countries, the current season featured peak sunseed prices that, combined with strong demand from domestic crushers, makes this crop attractive to growers. The market kept switching to domestic crush of sunseed.
The Y2020 sunseed crop was the lowest since MY 2013/14 because of low yield. Amid crushers’ increased need for the raw material, Bulgaria continued turning from an exporter of sunflower seed into its importer.
The acreage in 2021 is expected to expand. The weather conditions offer prospects of lower losses and higher yields. The sunseed crop increase will allow to partially reduce dependence on raw material imports, UkrAgroConsult reports.
