Brazilian soy exports in January are projected to reach nearly 4 million tons, setting a record for this period, the grain exporters’ group Anec reported on Tuesday.

Anec stated that Brazilian traders are expected to ship about 3.73 million tons of soybeans this month, roughly 1.3 million tons higher than last week’s forecast, despite farmers having only just begun harvesting the 2026 crop. The group attributed the upward revision to updated shipment schedules, noting that adjustments to vessel loading data are a normal occurrence during the month. Most Brazilian soybeans are destined for China, though competition from the U.S. this year is expected to reduce demand for Brazilian supplies.

Anec chairman Sérgio Mendes told Reuters last week that rains had delayed Brazilian soybean shipments in December. Some of the volume originally planned for last month was rescheduled to depart from local ports in January.

Brazil, the world’s largest producer and exporter of soybeans, shipped 2.85 million tons in January 2024, a record for that month, according to official trade data. In January 2025, shipments totaled 1.07 million tons. Analysts previously estimated that nearly 7 million tons of soybean carryover stocks remained in Brazil at the end of last year, part of which could be exported before the start of the new harvest.

As of last Thursday, Brazilian farmers had harvested only 0.6% of the 2025/26 soybean crop. Anec also raised its forecast for Brazilian corn exports in January to 3.27 million tons, up from last week’s projection of 2.85 million tons.
