Brazil. Sugar production decreased by 24%

According to UNICA, in the second half of October, sugar factories in Central and South Brazil produced 1.78 million tons of sugar, which is 24.3% less than in the same period last year, due to a decrease in sugar cane processing and a decrease in its use for sugar production.

In the second half of October, 27 factories completed sugar cane processing for the MY 2024/25. In total, 38 plants have completed their work this season, compared to 26 plants last year.

The volume of sugar cane processing in the second half of October amounted to 27.17 million tons, which is 21.6% less than last year. About 46.12% of sugar cane was used for sugar production, compared to 48.85% in the same period last year.

In total, since the beginning of the MY 2024/25 season, from April 1 to November 1, 566.03 million tons of sugar cane were processed in Central and South Brazil, compared to 561.09 million tons in the same period last year, and 37.38 million tons of sugar were produced, which is 0.27% more than in the same period of the previous season.
