BLACK SEA GRAIN & OIL: Growing oilseed production in Ukraine encourages crushing and exports of value added products
A new season may set a new world record for grains and oilseeds production. But will it mean a season of low prices on the global market? In mid-July, on the contrary, the market witnessed that the prices for raw materials and processed products, were rising due to lower estimates of the US soybean crop and the negative impact of another heat wave in Europe and Asia.
In Ukraine, commodity prices have been weakly correlated with global trends for almost a year and a half. Due to the military blockade and limited exports, basic commodities in the country remain much cheaper than their foreign counterparts. The most ambitious and advanced players are actively establishing and expanding processing, choosing to export processed products rather than raw materials. For such companies, the restrictions on wheat or rapeseed exports to some EU countries are not a limitation, but rather a new opportunity for supplying flour, vegoil or meal.
Ukraine is expected to have a large oilseed crop in the new season, which encourages to increase crushing and production of value added products.
