Barley prices in Ukraine are supported by supply shortages and rising tender prices in Turkey

Ukrainian farmers continue to hold back sales of their produce, but while initially the reason was adverse weather conditions, now everyone expects further price increases. As a result, traders are forced to raise prices for quick deliveries.

The sharp increase in prices for feed wheat to UAH 10,200/t and corn to UAH 10,400-10,500/t with delivery to ports also contributes to the increase in prices for barley.

In Ukraine, during the week, prices for feed barley with delivery to ports increased by 100 UAH/t to 10,800-11,100 UAH/t or $220-222/t following an increase in purchase prices at the tender in Turkey.

According to preliminary data from market participants, the Turkish state food procurement agency TMO purchased about 225 thousand tons of feed barley (out of the planned purchase volume of 255 thousand tons) in batches of 5 to 50 thousand tons in a tender on February 11, with delivery between February 23 and March 23 at a price of $266.2-273.6/ton C&F. The average purchase price was $269.7/ton C&F, which is almost $5/ton higher than the price of the January tender and slightly higher than the price of the February 3 auction, where the Algerian state grain agency OAIC purchased about 200 thousand tons of barley in an international tender at a price of $267-268/ton C&F.

The sellers of most of this volume were Russian companies, and some batches of goods are already in Turkish warehouses.

Barley export rates remain low. In the MY 2025/26 (as of February 9), Ukraine exported only 1.38 million tons of barley compared to 2.11 million tons in the same period last year, so we expect export shipments to pick up in the spring.
