Barley prices in Ukraine are rising following the prices of feed wheat and corn

After a slight decrease, export purchase prices for barley in Ukraine increased again amid the need to close contracts by traders and restrain sales by farmers, as well as following a rapid increase in the price of feed corn and wheat.
Two weeks ago, prices for feed barley delivered to ports were UAH 10,600–10,700/t, but last week they decreased to UAH 10,200–10,300/t, and since Monday they have increased by UAH 100–200/t to UAH 10,300–10,400/t or $222–224/t. At the same time, prices for corn and wheat in Black Sea ports have increased by UAH 200–300/t to UAH 10,700–10,800/t or $227–230/t.
During March 1-17, barley exports increased compared to the same period in February from 42 to 48 thousand tons, which is significantly inferior to the 266 thousand tons exported in March 2024. In total, in the MY 2024/25 (as of March 17), Ukraine exported 2.2 million tons of barley, which is 16% higher than the corresponding figure of the previous season (1.89 million tons).
Against the backdrop of a sharp increase in prices for feed barley, corn, and wheat at ports, processors have intensified purchases and increased prices for feed and malting barley to UAH 11,000–11,400/t with delivery to the plant.
World barley prices remain stable thanks to increased supplies from Australia and Canada, and recent tenders show subdued demand and low prices for new crop barley.
On March 19, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Jordan purchased 60,000 tons of feed barley of any origin from Olam at a tender for delivery on August 1–15 at a price of $236.5/ton C&F. The tender also included Vittera, Bunge, CHC, Cargill, Ameropa, Olam, Al Dahra, and Agrochirnogi.
The next tender for the purchase of 120,000 tons of feed barley of any origin with delivery in July-August will be held on March 26.
