Barley prices in Ukraine are rising amid a shortage of supplies

According to forecasts, against the background of a shortage of supplies and a reduction in world production, purchase prices for feed barley in Ukraine continue to grow, and are already вже 20/ton higher than prices for feed corn, although they are still inferior to prices for feed wheat.

As of December 13, Ukraine exported 5 million tons of barley in my 2021/22, which is 36% faster than last year’s pace, but the export forecast was also increased from 4.23 to 5.6-6 million tons compared to the previous season.

Purchase prices for barley in Ukraine last week reached порт 270-275/ton or UAH 8300-8400/ton in ports, while for corn they offered 2 260/ton, and for feed wheat–. 300/ton.

In Russia, in my 2021/22, barley production decreased from 21.8 million tons to 19 million tons compared to the previous season, of which only 2.1 million tons have been exported so far, which is 37% lower than last year’s pace. Therefore, it is unlikely to be possible to export 5 million tons in accordance with the USDA forecast.

USDA experts in the December report reduced the estimate of areas before harvesting barley in the world in 2021/22 MG by 418 thousand hectares, as a result of which the production forecast was reduced by 732 thousand tons to 145.5 million tons, which will be 15 million tons inferior to the harvest of 2020/21 MG, when 160.24 million tons were harvested. barley for feed by 665 thousand tons to 105.2 million tons against the background of more active consumption of corn.
