Bangladesh approves purchase of 220 thsd tons of American wheat
The Government Procurement Committee of Bangladesh has approved a proposal to import 220,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement. The supply will be carried out by Agrocorp International PTE Ltd, an agent of US Wheat Associates. The total contract value is 842.06 crore taka (≈ 68.2 million USD) and the price is 312.25 USD per tonne. The decision was taken at the 48th meeting of the Committee, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The procurement of 220,000 tonnes of wheat will be carried out by the Directorate General of Food on the initiative of the Ministry of Food. According to officials, the import is necessary to strengthen the government’s food reserves and ensure adequate grain for social welfare programmes.
