Australia remains the main grain exporter to Indonesia, Ukraine in 6th place
Australia remained Indonesia’s main supplier in the first quarter of this year, increasing exports by 18% year-on-year to 1.3 million tons. Argentina, which this year recovered from last year’s poor harvest, increased its supplies 3.4 times to 1 million tons. Australia sells only wheat to the local market, while Argentina still has about a quarter of its supplies of corn.
Thailand, which is the main exporter of rice to Indonesia, rounds out the top three: its shipments grew 2.5 times over the year to 655,000 tons. Canada was the fourth main supplier, having increased wheat sales by 20% – up to 639 thousand tons. russia supplied to Indonesia 493 thousand tons of grain for almost 140 million dollars against 6 thousand tons for 3 million dollars a year earlier. The basis of exports is wheat (491 thousand tons), there are also small supplies of buckwheat (2 thousand tons).
The top ten also includes Ukraine, Vietnam, Brazil, Pakistan and Myanmar. Interestingly, among the largest suppliers, the only one who noticeably reduced supplies was Brazil – its exports fell 2.6 times. Myanmar, on the contrary, increased its grain sales to Indonesia more than any other country (except for Russia) – 43 times.
