Australia exported 563 thsd tons of canola in April

Australia exported 563,346 tonnes of canola in April 2025, down 38% from the 904,178 tonnes shipped in March, according to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It was also 13% lower than the 647,700 tonnes exported in April 2024.
The largest market for canola shipped in April was Belgium, which imported 245,039 tonnes. It was followed by the Netherlands (65,190 tonnes), France (64,188 tonnes) and Germany (63,900 tonnes), which all reported similar volumes.
April saw the return of Pakistan as a major buyer after a two-month hiatus in exports caused by the Pakistani government’s withdrawal of permission to fumigation Australian canola with methyl bromide upon arrival. Following bilateral negotiations, Pakistan is now accepting phosphine-treated canola, as are Bangladesh, Malaysia and Mexico.
According to reports from Lachstock Consulting on Australian shipping lines dated 13 May and 3 June, exports of 508,000 tonnes of canola were expected in May, but only 91,000 tonnes were expected in June, matching the annual decline in the third quarter of the shipping year to September.
The figures highlight the importance of European markets for Australian canola, as well as the recovery of trade with Pakistan, which could support exports in the coming months despite seasonally reduced supplies.
