Argentina to reduce soybean area by 1 mln ha
Argentina’s soybean sowing campaign is progressing far slower than usual: as of November 26, only 11% of planned soybean areas had been planted, compared with 36% on the same date last year and a five-year average of 44%. The delay has prompted analysts to reassess expectations for the country’s crop structure this season.
According to Oil World, Argentina may cut its soybean acreage by around 1 million hectares compared with last year. Analysts note that the sluggish pace of planting has already become a decisive factor influencing farmers’ production choices.
In addition to weather-related delays, Argentine growers are increasingly shifting toward alternative crops. Sunflower, corn, and wheat are gaining preference this season, as many farmers view them as more stable and potentially more profitable under current market and agronomic conditions.
