Argentina has harvested its biggest soybean crop in six years
Argentina’s soybean production for the 2024/25 season reached 49.9 million tons, up 3.5% from the previous season and the best in six years, according to the National Directorate of Agriculture’s June report.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, which reports to the Ministry of Economy, reported that 17.8 million hectares were planted for the campaign, up 7.7% from the 2023/24 season.
In addition to the increase in planted area, yields were also outstanding, with first-plant soybeans averaging 3.06 tons/ha, exceeding the average of the last decade, and second-plant soybeans averaging 2.51 tons/ha, the highest in 10 years.
The largest producers were the provinces of Buenos Aires (5,477,098 ha), Cordoba (4,504,864 ha), Santa Fe (3,367,950 ha), Santiago del Estero (1,415,045 ha) and Entre Rios (1,250,450 ha). In general, the harvest is almost complete in the country, with only a few areas remaining. Argentina exports soybeans and processed products to 67 countries. The main export commodities are soybean meal and by-products. Over the past five years, the largest export destinations have been China (13% of the total), Vietnam (9%) and India (7%).
