In January 2026, Argentina significantly reduced its soybean exports due to a decline in processing, but doubled its sunflower oil and meal exports, according to Oil World (Germany).

Sunflower oil exports doubled compared to the same period last year, reaching 100,000 tons. Meal shipments increased to 150,000-160,000 tons (compared to 105,000 tons in January 2025).

Sunflower seed exports totaled approximately 100,000 tons. South Africa and the Black Sea region were the key sales destinations.

Meanwhile, the soybean industry is declining, with soybean oil exports from Argentina falling to 460,000-480,000 tons, compared to 562,000 tons the previous month and 502,000 tons the same month the previous year. Soybean meal exports also declined, to 1.95-2 million tons, down from 2.05 million tons the previous month and 2.22 million tons in January 2025.

Analysts predict Argentina’s position in the global sunflower oil market will further strengthen in the coming months. Sunflower processing in the country traditionally increases in February-March, and new processing plants are scheduled to begin operations in April 2026, enabling peak production and exports.
