Argentina approves new GM corn and soybean varieties

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of Argentina has approved the commercial use of two new genetically modified crops, one corn variety and one soybean variety. The relevant permits were issued by decrees No. 113/2025 and No. 115/2025.
The new corn variety combines resistance to several herbicides with protection against Lepidoptera pests. This combination allows for more effective management of weeds, including chemical-resistant species, and serves as an important tool in containing the development of resistance in pests. In addition, the variety has the potential to increase yields, which can help increase crop productivity.
The new soybean line contains three insecticidal proteins that provide reliable protection against Lepidoptera pests. This represents a technologically advanced alternative to integrated pest management systems, helps prevent the development of resistance and facilitates expansion of soybean acreage in the country.
