Apple harvest in Poland will increase, but in the EU the figures are below average

In the 2025/2026 season, apple production in the leading countries of the European Union will remain almost at the level of last year – 10.5 million tons, which is only 0.1% less. But this figure is 7.5% lower than the average yield over the past 3 and 5 years. This is reported by SadyOgrody.pl with reference to the World Association of Apple and Pear Producers (WAPA).
Poland, as the largest apple producer in the region, expects a harvest of over 3.3 million tons – over 3% more than last year (3.19 million tons).
The Golden Delicious variety will reduce its share by 0.9% (2.06 million tons), Gala will remain stable – 1.43 million tons. Red Delicious and Idared, on the contrary, will lose significantly: by 19.2% and 8.8%, respectively.
WAPA analysts attribute the decline in yields to climate change, the shift to lower-yielding varieties, the development of organic horticulture and other structural changes in the industry.
WAPA Secretary General Philippe Binard warned:
“Despite stable production forecasts, the sector faces worrying uncertainty. Climate variability, limited capacity to manage biosecurity threats, labour shortages, rising costs not compensated by market prices, geopolitical instability, an unstable trading environment and exchange rate fluctuations are all factors that limit long-term predictability. A stronger European Union with a robust single market based on common principles is essential, especially in the face of political trends towards greater subsidiarity – which threaten to reduce competitiveness and distort competition between EU producers.”
