Appeals court allowed Trump to impose import tariffs
The US Federal Court of Appeals granted an emergency request by the administration of President Donald Trump and temporarily suspended the order of the Federal Trade Court, which was issued the day before.
This is reported by the AP.
Thus, the US Federal Court of Appeals confirmed the right of Trump to apply the law on emergency powers, and therefore to introduce tariffs on imports.
Earlier, the US Court of International Trade ruled to block the import tariffs introduced by the administration of Donald Trump within the framework of an “economic emergency”.
This order concerned the tariffs that Trump announced on April 2 on “American Liberation Day”, as well as previous decrees on tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China.
The judges believed that their application exceeded the presidential powers, since the head of state does not have the right to use tariffs as a means of “punishment”.
US stock markets reacted optimistically to the blocking of tariffs – indices immediately showed growth of several percent.
