Another 5 thsd tons of corn will be shipped to Malawi as part of Grain from Ukraine
As part of the Grain from Ukraine program, Ukraine will deliver almost 5 thousand tons of corn to Malawi in the coming weeks. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the X network.
“Ukraine has supplied 14.5 thousand tons of corn to Malawi under the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine. Almost 5 thousand tons more will be delivered in the coming weeks. I am grateful to the UN World Food Program and partners for supporting these efforts,” Zelensky wrote.
He noted that this year Malawi is experiencing a devastating drought that has destroyed a significant portion of local corn production and caused an acute food security situation.
“This supply of Ukrainian corn will help to stabilize the situation and meet the monthly needs of more than 1.5 million Malawians,” the President noted.
He emphasized that Ukraine is committed to its role as a global guarantor of food security, even though it has to withstand Russia’s full-scale invasion and attacks on our ports and agricultural infrastructure.
At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s goal is not only to provide food in difficult times, but also to share knowledge and technology with African partners to help them become more self-sufficient and independent in agricultural production.
“This will be one of the main directions of the upcoming 3rd Food Security Summit in Kyiv,” the President noted, adding that Ukraine counts on a broad representation of African states and other partners at this important event.
“By uniting and adhering to the principles of the UN Charter, we will be able to overcome the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
