Almost 100 mln tons of grain transported through the Ukrainian corridor
During the period of operation of the Ukrainian Corridor, it transported over 162 million tons of cargo, of which over 98 million tons were grain. Almost 7 thousand vessels passed through the corridor. This is reported by RAIL.insider with reference to information from the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
As the head of the department, Oleksiy Kuleba, noted during a meeting with the Seaports Administration of Ukraine in the Odessa region, despite the constant attacks of the Russian Federation on port, energy and railway infrastructure, Ukraine continues to ensure the operation of maritime exports and fulfill its role in the global food security system.
The Ukrainian Sea Corridor operates under conditions of constant military threat. Since the beginning of its operation, it has handled over 162 million tons of cargo, of which over 98 million tons were grain. Almost 7 thousand vessels passed through the corridor.
“Supplies of Ukrainian grain, oil, corn and barley cover 55 countries of the world. For many of them, especially in North Africa, this route is the only economically feasible way of delivery. Our task is to protect infrastructure, people and ensure continuity of supplies even in wartime,” the government official specified.
Work continues daily to strengthen the security of seaports. The Seaports Administration of Ukraine, in close cooperation with the military, law enforcement agencies and business, is implementing additional measures to protect infrastructure and ensure the safe passage of vessels.
The focus is also on the safety of port workers. Work is underway to install shelters, which will increase the safety of port workers during enemy strikes.
Special attention is paid to energy sustainability. Backup power sources are being introduced, cogeneration units are being installed, and critical infrastructure is being modernized. Ports are adapting to work in conditions of energy restrictions and combined attacks in order to ensure the continuity of export operations.
